1st March 2003:
Bywaters introduced the fluorescent tube recycling scheme - "The Tube Station" - in 2000. Since its inception, the scheme has proved to be extremely popular and with it we have assisted our customers in recycling thousands of tubes. The popularity of the Tube Station continues, with new customers signing up on a regular basis.

One of the questions we frequently heard from customers was related to the weather-resistant properties of the storage box. Our original model was constructed of robust, corrugated cardboard - perfectly acceptable as long as it was kept dry, but not so useful if the box were to be left in a puddle overnight. We looked at several materials of construction to overcome this drawback, with the preconditions on the ultimate material that it be lightweight, weather-resistant and as environmentally acceptable as was practicable. Our final choice of material was recovered plastic, and we now have a design and a supplier which meet our needs. We will be phasing in the new "All-Weather Tube Stations" over the next few months and we hope that all our customers will benefit from the new design.
