29th August 2007:
Bywaters is very pleased to announce that due to the success of the CIWM accredited Waste Awareness Certificate Course launched in January 2007, we have now added a construction module.
Construction and demolition wastes account for some 25% of the total waste generated in the UK. This waste is eminently recyclable and/or reusable and new legislation is to be put in place to reduce waste and improve recovery of these materials.
It is anticipated that every construction project with a budget in excess of £250,000 will need to comply with the new legislation, which requires each project to have a site waste management plan. These plans will need to address the generation and management of wastes produced on site (and will be required to name a responsible person for managing the wastes produced) as well as outlining just what the construction company plans to do with the wastes. This is a method employed to get the industry to think ahead and try to get them to reuse and recycle more of the waste that they produce.
For this reason, the CIWM decided to augment their basic Waste Awareness Certificate course by adding a "Construction Waste" module. This is the course that Bywaters is currently presenting. We are one of only two training centres in London and the Southern Counties to roll out this new module.
