Monday 8th July 2009:
Westminster City Council is making it easier for residents to recycle their waste but their efforts do not end there. The Council educates residents to the many ways of reducing waste and actively encourages them to reuse the items that might otherwise be thrown away.

When Jarno Stet, Waste Service Development Manager, visited Futuresource at ExCel in June to learn about industry developments, he had no idea that a few weeks later he would win something that would ultimately help the City of Westminster increase its recycling capabilities.

The Council has won 12 months free rental of a Bywaters Compactor, which will enable them to compact their recyclables, increasing their recycling capacity. The compactor optimises transport loads, saving transport costs and reducing the impact on the environment.

Jarno Stet says: "It was an absolute shock to win the Bywaters Compactor Competition as I have never won anything in my life. It is even better that I have won something that, through increasing our recycling, will help the city tackle the causes of climate change and conserve energy".

Amanda Brown, Deputy Managing Director, Bywaters continues: "Bywaters works closely with customers such as the GLA and is passionate about working with other authorities to increase their recycling rates. We are proud of the work we do in diverting waste from landill through our range of products and services and through London’s largest undercover dry recyclables Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). It was a pleasure to inform Westminster City Council that they won the competition and we look forward to working with them to increase their recycling rates".
