The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has begun a series of nationwide visits to skip hire companies and held its first awareness event at Bywaters. The event, aimed at skip hire companies, commercial waste/recycling companies and local authorities, welcomed industry peers to a series of presentations and open forums.
The HSE, in association with Bywaters, provided a platform for industry guests to obtain advice and information relating to their businesses and to showcase their own best practices.
The waste and recycling industry has an overall accident rate at least 4 times greater than the UK average and a fatal accident rate at least 10 times the average. With this in mind, Bywaters, the HSE and their industry peers will continue to work closely together to increase health and safety and recycling rates.
