21st September 2011:
The Metro, 21st September, reported that in a recent statement by energy secretary Chris Huhne "humans face being wiped out unless carbon emissions are cut".

Huhne claims that "cutting carbon is not a luxury to be ditched when the going gets tough. It is essential to the survival of mankind as a species".

Air pollution is a concern, in spite of significant improvements in recent years, so from 2012 London's Low Emission Zone (LEZ) will become more stringent and vehicles must meet tighter standards.

At Bywaters we are committed to meeting the needs of our customers and the business has grown based on our duty to protecting the environment through the development of innovative and market leading recycling and recovery solutions. The efficiencies generated by our new Volvo fleet will increase our tonnage collected while reducing noise and emissions for our customers and the streets of London. This means Bywaters can measure the carbon emissions from the collection operation and deliver services which meet the LEZ's tighter emissions standards to be introduced in 2012.
